India has witnessed
rise and fall of countless empires from Taj to Raj,
numerous battles and revolts. Perhaps one of the biggest
mass movements modern society has ever seen, which rouse
millions of Indian of all castes, creeds and ideologies
against the Empire rule, is the mutiny of 1857 (first
war of independence for Indians). The first signs of
Mutiny appeared at Barrackpore and Behrampur, in Bengal,
at the outset of 1857 and were rapidly repressed. |
In May 1857, however,
the Indian soldiers at Meerut revolted, opened the prisons
in to which there fellows have been thrown, killed the
European officers, and burnt their houses. The next
day they rushed towards Delhi, massacring Europeans,
and proclaimed Bahadur Shah II Emperor of India. Insurrection
then took place almost everywhere.
At Cawnpore (Kanpur), Nana Sahib - who had proclaimed
himself Peshwa - managed to seize the fortress and
its British Garrison, and massacred all the occupants.
At Lucknow, the Mutiny began on 30th May 1857, but
the English garrison was able to hang on at the residence
until November, when troops arrived under the new
commander - in - Chief from England, Sir Colin Campbell
(later Lord Clyde), assisted by Jang Bahadur of Nepal
with his strong contingent of Gorkhas.
Only few sites of theses mutinies, battlefields,
cemeteries and movement remain (1857 -1947), but story
of these extraordinary episodes are equally exciting
for both European and Indian.
Banking on our experience in researching, arranging
and operating Battlefield, Cemeteries, Mutiny and
History Tours, we offer tailor-made itineraries of
your interested subject, length and choice on request.
For ready reference, we have illustrated a few thrilling

which visit historical, heritage and touristic sites
of pre Raj era, under the title OTHERS TOURS
